ABOUT US
Our pottery and tiles are inspired by the region around Virginia City. Our working studio is located in a historic building at 107 Washington, Virginia City, Nevada; across from the Train Station; an area surrounded by ghost towns left behind by the Comstock Lode. In a city where many dreams of hope and riches were left tumbling across the desert mountains like tumbleweeds; wild horses, stunning scenery, and stories of the wild wild west inspire our tile and pottery designs.
Comstock Pottery, for Nancy the owner and ceramic artist, is about introducing traditional tile making and wheel throwing techniques to the Comstock region; thus preserving the pioneer spirit of hard work, vision, and hope. The blending of cultures and introducing others to skills that we learned when we were young. The satisfaction of making and demonstrating how to build functional pottery and tiles by hand and not in a factory setting in American Folk Art style. There is personal beauty to each item that evolves from a slab of clay to a local finished product.
The working studio/store is open Thursday thru Sunday, from 10am-4pm. We are working on special orders during the week. If the inside lights are on, we are open so please come on in and visit a bit.
